Metaphors of Movement · Levels 1 & 2

Train Metaphors of Movement with someone who was there at the start.

Metaphors of Movement was created by Andrew T. Austin. Mark Andreas was in the room at its earliest presentations — Colorado, 2009 — and has trained with Austin almost every year since. When you learn it from Mark, you learn it close to the source.

Trained with the source

A direct line to the origin of the method

Metaphors of Movement was developed by Andrew T. Austin. Many people have taken a course in it. Very few learned it the way Mark did — in the room as it took shape, and back at Austin’s side almost every year since.

  1. 2009

In the room at the start

When Andreas NLP hosted Andrew T. Austin in Colorado, Mark was present at some of the earliest presentations of Metaphors of Movement — watching the method emerge first-hand.

  2. Since

Trained with Austin, almost every year

Mark has returned to train directly with Austin, the originator, almost every year since — following the method as it has deepened and refined over more than a decade.

  3. Today

    Trains Levels 1 & 2

Mark now teaches Metaphors of Movement Levels 1 and 2 — in person and online — through Andreas NLP Trainings. Learning from him means learning close to the original work.

Metaphors of Movement is the work of Andrew T. Austin. Mark teaches it as a trained practitioner and trainer — with full credit to its originator.

What you’ll be learning

What Metaphors of Movement actually is

Listen to how people describe being stuck and the language is almost always spatial. We say we feel “stuck,” “weighed down,” “boxed in,” “up against a wall,” “going in circles.” These aren’t just figures of speech — they map a felt, internal landscape.

Metaphors of Movement works directly with that landscape. Rather than analysing the problem, the practitioner takes the client’s own metaphor literally and helps them move within it — out of the box, off the wall, around the obstacle. As the metaphor shifts, the pattern it describes shifts with it.

It is precise, often surprising, and grounded in the client’s own words. Honest about what it is and isn’t — no mystique, just a clear, learnable way of working with the language people already use.

  • Works with the client’s own spatial and movement language
  • Literal, embodied movement — not abstract talk about the problem
  • A structured, teachable method you can practise and apply
  • Shifts the pattern by shifting the metaphor that holds it

Beyond the signature method

His wider change-work

Metaphors of Movement is Mark’s signature lane, but it sits within a deeper practice. He also trains and works in two further methods developed within his own family.

Core Transformation

Developed by Connirae Andreas

A gentle, deep process that takes an unwanted feeling or behaviour down through its positive purposes to a “Core State” — wholeness, peace, being, love. Mark co-designed the Core Transformation Coach Certification.

The Wholeness Work

Developed by Connirae Andreas · a.k.a. Coming to Wholeness

A subtle process working with the sense of self — “the I” — to dissolve reactive patterns at a deep level. Mark’s work also draws on classical NLP processes and Self-Concept work.

About Mark

A teacher raised inside the work

Mark Andreas learned the family methods — Core Transformation, the Wholeness Work, Self-Concept work and classical NLP — directly from the people who invented them: his parents, Steve and Connirae Andreas, pioneers of the field. NLP is the heritage he comes from, and he has made the work his own.

His path ran through an undergraduate degree in Peace & Global Studies at Earlham College, then years as a counselor and trip-leader at the Monarch Center for Family Healing — leading at-risk teens on three-week wilderness backpacking expeditions, individual therapy and group process, round the clock.

Today he co-sponsors Andreas NLP Trainings with his mother Connirae, trains internationally, and lives in Boulder, Colorado, with his wife Catherine and their son. Metaphors of Movement — learned close to its source — is the lane he has made distinctly his own.
